- Which ideas from the video reflect what the ELA teachers you interviewed are currently doing to integrate technology with their literacy instruction?
- During my recent observation, I took the time to scan the room to see what type of material students have access to and what type of environment is promoted for a healthy learning. One of the key initiatives in the classroom is the act of kindness and being a model student. Each day, students are asked to complete a do now for the moment or day in which they write, communicate or physically do one act of kindness. This mantra is similar to the global literacy, also known as global awareness. By instructing students to share with a different partner each day, kids are promoting a healthy learning environment.
- How can you help change their instructional practices to include the use of technology and the Internet in their literacy and content-area curriculum?
- During my first observation, students worked in stations in which they read, wrote summaries and completed a word chart. During the teachers lesson plan they reviewed possessive nouns. I would've incorporated a station with laptops to provide more practice with possessive nouns utilizing a matching program for students to practice.
- What professional development and/or resources will they need in order to make these changes?
- I think the teacher has some great ideas and resources, however, it felt like she was a bit overwhelmed with the class and with the start of the new year. The great thing about this school is, students and teachers have access to an array of websites in which they can study and create technology based learning.
- What ideas do you have for grouping students so they will have equal access to technology in the classroom?
- I think it is great that students are broken into stations and have the opportunity to swap throughout the lesson. With this practice, students get a hands-on experience for an allotted time throughout the day for various subjects (math, science and english). In addition, I would choose a program that is tailored to a students level of performance. Based on how students perform, questions are adjusted to their growth level and comprehension.
