Self Introduction

Greetings,

Welcome to my blog! I look forward to working with you all this semester. Below you will find a photo of me this past Spring at a panel discussion on the climate of education in NYC.

Voki introduction

If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it?
If I could write a book about myself, I would name the book, “Different Journeys in Time”. I chose this title because, I feel like I’ve had many journeys and experiences through life that have made an impact on where I’m at and where I hope to be in the future.

Tell us one of your favorite joke.
What's the difference between a good joke and a bad joke timing.

Tell us what subject you teach, years of teaching, and how far you are in the Teacher Education program (if different program, please specify).
I’m currently not teaching and I haven’t had the chance to transition into teaching full time.  I hope to be in the classroom full time next school year, I’m currently in my third Semester in Childhood Education at NYIT.

How much do you know about teaching language arts?
I don’t know much about language arts, however, from my educational experience, language arts were the focus of writing (writing, grammar and spelling).

How much do know about "new literacies?"
I know that new literacies are the presence of technology within the classroom as a learning tool.

What are your concerns about taking this course?
I don’t currently have any concerns, I look forward to learning cool ways to keep students engaged and to get students who struggle in this area to have a respect and appreciation for language arts.

Book Builder

Love Your Hair! My book builder topic is on hair and diversity and it is aimed at students in kindergarten and first grade. As a future teacher, I think it is important to explore excepting people and allowing students to become comfortable with diversity at an early age. Growing up in NYC, I was exposed to so many cultures at a young age and it shaped who I am today. By introducing culture awareness at an early age, I believe that we will reduce the possibility of bullying and discrimination later on with students. I received the idea to explore this topic after having a conversation with a fellow co-worker who has a niece who is currently bullied in her class for her hair texture. After chatting with the ELA instructor ,she said it would be a great idea as students become self aware of their differences at an early age. By implementing this story into a lesson plan, students will practice by reading along and exploring new words by making connections to the patterns they've lea...
