Week 11: Assignment 1

The Article “Using VoiceThread to Promote Learning Engagement and Success for All Students” provides an overview of the benefits of using VoiceThreads throughout various subjects and learning levels. Prior to reading the article, I wasn’t knowledgeable about the software and its benefits. With the various changes on learning standards and the need for teachers to implement technology as well as keep students engaged, this program has become quite a benefit within the classroom. According to the article, “students who are often considered passive learners can become more actively involved through an ongoing interaction with instructional content”. From observing within the classroom, many students know the answers to questions, however, are a bit intimidated to speak in front of their fellow classmates. VoiceThreads provide students the opportunity to provide a comment that they may edit and re-record if they are not satisfied. In addition, providing lesson plans, teachers may also request students to create their own presentation and create an engaging dialogue amongst their peers.

I look forward to utilizing this software with my students in the future, there are many benefits for students and teaching a class with students of various learning levels. You may adjust expectations and lesson plans for students without their fellow classmates having access.

Book Builder

As a future teacher, I think it is important to explore excepting people and allowing students to become comfortable with diversity at an early age. Growing up in NYC, I was exposed to so many cultures at a young age and it shaped who I am today. By introducing culture awareness at an early age, I believe that we will reduce the possibility of bullying and discrimination later on with students. I received the idea to explore this topic after having a conversation with a fellow co-worker who has a niece who is currently bullied in her class for her hair texture. After chatting with the ELA instructor ,she said it would be a great idea as students become self aware of their differences at an early age. By implementing this story into a lesson plan, students will practice by reading along and exploring new words by making connections to the patterns they've lea...
